After being taken off iOS and Android in India for almost a year, Battlegrounds Mobile India, also known as the immensely popular battle royale shooter BGMI, has just recently made a comeback. The mobile game's creators, Krafton, rereleased it on May 29 with some playtime limitations in place. BGMI is now the focal point of an esports competition just days after starting its second life in India. A BGMI tournament will be held at Skyesports, an esports and gaming company, with a guaranteed prize pool of Rs. 25 lakh.

The competition, known as the Skyesports Champions Series, will start on June 9 and last until June 18, the esports organisation tweeted on Saturday. The BGMI competition will start at 1:00 IST and be streamed on the Skyesports YouTube channel. Competitions in the BGMI had been suspended ever since the game was outlawed in July 2022.

Back in August 2022, Skyesports CEO Shiva Nandy had said that the BGMI ban was only temporary, and the game would make a return.

To combat the issue of gaming addiction, the BGMI has been updated with daily time limits. The most recent patch for the game also includes upgrades to vintage maps, a brand-new map set on a resort on a tropical island, and fresh in-game activities. Depending on the player's age, restricted playtimes will be applied; children are only allowed to play for three hours each day, while adults are allowed to play for up to six.

BGMI was apparently authorised to be brought back to India by the Indian government last month, reportedly on a three-month trial basis. Krafton acknowledged this last month. Due to worries about data privacy and online security, the game was prohibited in July of last year. In accordance with Section 69 of the IT Act, BGMI was withdrawn from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
